25th NACAA 2012
25th NACAA 2012
hs199919ifullThe 25th NACAA will be held over Easter 2012, Friday April 6 to Monday April 9, hosted by the Astronomical Association of Queensland and supported by the other astronomy clubs in South East Queensland. The venue is the University of Queensland campus in Brisbane. The NACAA XXV committees invite everyone interested in the "cutting-edge" of amateur astronomy to attend.
We are working to ensure that the programme will include an exciting mix of invited speakers, technical sessions, group discussions, hands-on workshops, and social functions. The 2012 Berenice Page medal is expected to be presented at the convention dinner.
The sixth Trans-Tasman Symposium on Occultations and the inaugural Variable Stars South Symposium will be held as part of the NACAA programme. Registrations for NACAA XXV will commence in late 2011. A number of registration packages will be available, ranging from attendance at just one or two sessions, the workshops or symposia, through to a full convention, dinner and BBQ package.

VENUE
The venue for NACAA XXV is the Parnell lecture theatre complex on the campus of the University of Queensland. Situated at St Lucia on the Brisbane River, the university is about 7 km from the centre of Brisbane. Facilities at the complex are well suited to the convention. There are two lecture theatres available, each with a capacity to comfortably seat 200 people and equipped with a wide range of audio visual equipment.
PROGRAMME
The programme committee, chaired by Jonathan Bradshaw, is happy to receive submissions on a wide range of topics including, but not limited to
- astroimaging and processing
- photometry, variable stars, and supernovae
- solar system studies, including comets, eclipses, and occultations
- telescope making and instrumentation
- education, local activities and events, and outreach
- astronomical history, and
- activity planning including pro-amcollaboration.
To assist with scheduling, the committee is particularly interested at this stage in proposals for activities such as symposia or workshops to be held in conjunction with the convention. A general call for other submissions will be distributed around July 2011.
